Lesson 01: Voltage Waves

Section 1: Motivation

Before delving into simulations, several useful RF concepts will be presented. Some very basic terms will be defined, which will be needed before advancing our RF knowledge. The concept of voltage and current waves will be developed, which will be critical in developing an intuition of how RF works. To aid in visualizing how the RF energy propagates, simulations and videos of real-world demonstrations of waves will be presented. Once the concept of the voltage wave is developed, some applications (and consequences) of voltage waves will be shown on a circuit level.
